On the back of a recently completed CGI project for a client, I was asked if I could make some alterations to a couple of their existing photographs, of two newly completed projects which they wished to use on their own portfolio website.

In order to help focus the viewers’ attention on the properties themselves. Each photo had a few things that needed tidying up, removing or completing; particularly where the landscaping was concerned.

Parts of my workflow, like removing the telegraph pole in the image above, were done with retouching in post. However, for larger sections of landscape, I was able to add in completely new 3d elements: Using the photographs as a guide I created a basic 3d model of each view (below left).

On this model I then added detailed elements where required, like the grass, paving and planting. Once rendered to high res these new sections of image (above right) could be comped into the photograph.
