Here’s a residential photo-montage project I completed the other day.

The images were created directly for the home owners to help them with their decision making, prior to the architect’s designs being signed off.

The proposed alterations to the front of their property involve converting one of the garages into a room, and remodelling the flat roof over the garages.

To the rear there is a single story extension, housing a new open plan kitchen, complete with Velux windows and bi-folding doors, opening onto a new patio area.

The completed photo-montage CGI images are solely intended for the homeowners themselves to look at and compare to the existing property: They aren’t going to printed to high resolution or used for marketing purposes etc. So I was more than happy to work with minimal information; simple preliminary architects elevation drawings, a ground floor plan, and photographs taken by the owners, on their phone. All this kept cost and turn around time to a minimum.

In post editing the images I also tried to be true to the look of the original photographs; with minimal embellishments, and not worrying about correcting the vertical lines of the buildings etc.

That is with the possible exception of the rear view, where the original photo was a little flat in terms of the lighting. So I managed to enhance the levels of the sky, pushing the photo as far as I could (a bit noisy at full res, but fine for these purposes), and adding new CG grass and sunlight etc.
